Some places remind you of others,
sending you far from now,
robbing you of the moment while
creating another.
=============
I don’t know if this is a poem, a fragment or a thought. But it came to me while walking along the Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. It was my first time there and I should have been taking it all in, but somehow, it made me think of Venice, and the miles and miles I walked, it was Venice I was seeing in my mind’s eye, even as I was there in Texas. I enjoyed the Riverwalk, but I am also aware that I missed much of it, my mind’s eye somewhere else.
We do that a lot in life, I think, something in the now reminds of something else and off our minds go, like a wayward child, to somewhere else, missing the moment we are in.
Not that remembering is a bad thing. Far from it. But at times, at the wrong times, it can rob us of the joys we have around us now.
And that is sad.
