Poem: This is What You Imagine

This is What You Imagine

This is what you imagine,
flight,
wings spread,
the perfect wind under your wings,

effortless rising.

This is what you imagine,
sun,
impossibly blue skies

calling you upwards.

This is what you imagine
and the myth
raises and cripples you,

both.

================

The picture was taken years ago. I am not even sure where, either Savannah, Ga, or Jamestown, Va. I like the painting like quality of it. The poem was written this morning.

Often, when I have had a few days of too much activity (as I have these past three days), I pick a picture at random, and write the poem to the pictures, instead of trying to pull something out of where I am in the moment. It’s a good way to break the logjam of thoughts and feelings.
