The Devil’s Scream
You search.
Quietly at first, with enthusiasm,
you search for that something,
the final piece
that somehow has become lost,
the keystone
that holds it all together,
the one thing that matches no other
and holds it all together.
You search,
hungrily, with increasing desperation,
unsure where you lost it,
unsure even
what it is, what you are seeking,
yet certain it is there,
just outside your vision,
a whisp of the wind
dancing, mocking.
You search,
and the devil dances in your mind
as you lose the energy
of love unreplenished,
realizing finally,
what you have lost and
that all the time it was in you,
waiting for your eyes
to turn inward.
You search, and there,
deep inside your heart,
is the fissure, the soul
ripped apart by loss and pain,
and there, next
all the while waiting
is the balm of love, ready for your discovery,
ready for the healing that sends
the devil screaming into the night.
