Poem: Please

Please

Do not leave me alone,
alone in this bed,
or as I walk in the dark
of falling night.

It is not about fear,
for I have felt fear’s
illusion
and know it’s intimate lies,

heard the devil’s silky whisper
and have learned the fine art
of dancing
alone.

It is not lust
for your soul, or need
for your perfection
or even need

to complete the gashes
in my own brokenness, for
I have become
in my God-given flaws

and how they open my heart
while allowing me to build
castle walls and windows
that protect and open

to storms and battles.
No, I want more than a shield
or a playmate, more,
far, far more

than perfection,
I wish to share the journey, wish it
more than lust,
to have travel, learn, love,

to fall, fail and laugh
though tears we cry

together.
