Poem: What Remains

What Remains

You stand in the middle of the street
as traffic and people move, and stop,
an aberration in the city,
in your chosen work, you pause

often, watching, listening,
letting experience pile on experience,
letting God whisper in your year,
letting the chaos swirl past you, waiting

for what is left. waiting
to see what does not move,
what remains, what

is important.

================================

The photograph was taken last Thursday, while I was doing a shoot for a client at Madison Square Gardens. When I was done, about 7, I simply walked the street for a while, camera in hand. New York is no different than any place – there is always something to capture. Here, I walked with everyone else when the appropriate “walk” light came on, then stopped and started snapping pictures. People flowed around me like I was not there.
