I am not the best housekeeper in the world. I sort of muddle along from day to day, putting a few things up here and there, never quite keeping up with the mess and dust until the house reaches a certain point, then I stop everything and dedicate some time to putting things in order, wiping out the dust bunnies and stirring my allergies to a frenzy along the way.
Yesterday afternoon was one of those clean up days. My upstairs was in order, but probably could have qualified as a dustbin, so while the rest of the world was watching football, I cleaned.
One of the things I have noticed over the years is that when I do get around to housekeeping, I also reorganize things. To me, it’s part of the process. Often the reorganization projects have been on my mind for some time – things that I have noticed and just haven’t gotten to.
Perhaps I haven’t gotten to them because they didn’t seem THAT important. Or I didn’t get to them because they seemed to be too big a project to interrupt my life with. But since life is being interrupted by cleaning anyway, I tend to also do these little projects.
I am much the same way with my work, and my writing. Recently, for instance, I’ve noticed a trend in my readers. One group read my poetry and commented and liked things. Another group read my essays on life. A few liked my pithy little comments best. Yet another group likes my art. Rarely are the groups the same people.
I’ve had readers write me telling me they like this or that, but they wished they didn’t have to plow through all the rest to get to what they like.
So over the past little while, I’ve been working at separating things so readers can get right to the things they like. It’s sort of been my own housekeeping, putting things in order. So here’s how to find what you like best……
- If you come here mostly for poetry and photography, stay put. That’s what this blog will become more focused on.
- It you generally read my essays on life lessons, you’ll want to start visiting my Wisdom Letters blog.
- We live in a instant kind of world, so as sort of an adjunct to the Wisdom Letters, I’ve started creating what I call Wisdom Cards – where I condense a larger lesson down to one or two phrases that fit on the equivalent of a digital 3″ x 5″ card, easily downloaded for sharing on facebook, twitter or as a backdrop on a computer screen. You can get these on WordPress, or Tumblr.
- If you are most focused on art and photography, then you’ll want to visit my Accidental Artist blog.
- As long time readers know, beyond my writing I do a lot of things, ranging from consulting on technology projects, to marketing, to consulting and coaching. Each of these other things has a social media outlet focused on a particular niche. Rather than bore you, if you are interested, you can see the whole list complete with links, here at About Me or for longer explanations, the Quarry House web site.
This took some time, so I apologize to those of you who have been waiting for me to do this. It won’t be more work now that it’s in place, but it took some time to put in place. But, now that housekeeping is complete, it’s on with the real work!
Happy new year, and thanks to all of you who read, who write me, and who comment. A writer is always moved to find out when his writing touches someone else’s heart.
Take care. Journey wisely,
Tom
