A Moment in Manhattan.
In your mind, a saxophone is playing,
low and seductive in the background.
Bogart stands in the shadows,
dark and dangerous,
watching your every move,
as if
somehow your life mattered
to those who released you
so long ago.
You stand in the light of a streetlamp,
unsure whether to break into dance,
a modern day Gene Kelly,
full of power and joy,
or to simply stand
like a museum piece,
a fictional creation of another’s art and lies
hiding
in plain view.

The photograph was taken in New York City, about a month ago after a shoot I did. As I always do when I shoot in New York, afterwards I wandered the streets with my camera, taking in the energy and photographing whatever captured my imagination. You can click on it for a larger version.
