Dark Surrender
Today you surrendered,
let the currents take you,
rag doll like, unresisting
down that dark hole, giving in,
letting the feelings for once,
win their senseless, ceaseless
siege.
Ah the bliss of it,
a day without battle,
without struggle, to simply
allow the tiny death to win
for a day. to rest, finally rest,
even in defeat.
For rest is where strength is gathered,
to fight again, knowing, even in darkness
that on the other side of death,
lies light.
About this poem
Sometimes, we just give in to our dark days. But only for a moment, for then we pick up and go on.
The picture is of some flowers the woman I love left for me when she traveled to NJ a few weeks ago. I’ve let them die slowly, because even in their death, they are beautiful. The way this one shot caught the light brought the kernel of this poem to mind.
