A Troublesome God
He lets you wait,
sitting on the edge of your seat,
until the last moment.
He changes the little rules,
but the big ones?
You never get off the hook.
He meddles.
He infects your thoughts
late at night.
He makes you uncomfortable,
sometimes when you need to be,
sometimes, just because.
He is a troublesome God,
a mad creator of beauty
and beasts,
a cinematic director with the perfect script,
who nonetheless trusts his actors
with the details.
He loves cliffhangers, it seems,
and insists, time and time again,
on saving your life.
About this poem
It’s not what the bible says directly, but read closely, and you might find I am not far off the mark. Certainly it is my experience with him.
The picture was taken at Buchanan Baptist Church in Buchanan, Virginia.
