Poem: Suddenly

rush

Suddenly

Suddenly,
with a word,
a touch,
a kiss…

with a glance that says far too much,
or a call in the night….

with a prayer answered,
or even one spurned
so clearly you wonder at your blindness.

Suddenly your head is spinning,
your footing uncertain,
and you dance on the precipice,
the world a blur,
unsure if you will dance into space,
or fall to the ground,
dizzy, sick, and lost.

About this poem

Come on. We’ve all been in that place, good or bad, where everything changed, and despite knowing there had been a sea change, we have no idea what it means.

The picture was taken from my train window last Friday. It made me think of being a child, spinning, spinning, spinning until we could not stand any longer, falling, while the world continued to spin under our feet. It was a “mistake” picture, but as soon as I saw it, I knew there was a poem in it somewhere, and I have been waiting for it to emerge.
