Poem: Uncertain Calm

Thomas Nelson House 2

Uncertain Calm

The ground shifts
beneath your feet,
the solid floor dissolving,
the walls leaning
like a drunken sailor
trying to dance
to discordant music.

The ground shifts
beneath your feet,
and you deftly
shift with it,
your center of gravity
never quite settled,
never quite in a place of peace
always anticipating

The ground shifting
beneath your feet,
even in the moments
when it is still.

About this poem

When something happens again and again, you never quite get settled. Sometimes, even when it is settled, it’s hard to trust the calm.
