Jetties
The jetties cut out into the ocean,
man made walls,
straight lines,
clear to the eye, designed
to protect your small boat
from the storm
while still giving you an avenue
back into the ocean.
Made of stone and wood,
the jetties stand strong
and require careful navigation
or they become
as fatal as the sea.
About the poem
Sometimes the walls we build are as fatal as the things we are trying to protect ourselves from.
Sometimes we have to leave the walls behind and head out to deep waters.
Sometimes we make up a poem because we like the picture, and we have to say SOMETHING. We find the meaning after we’ve finished the writing, not while we are writing. This is one of those times. I took the picture yesterday at a SMPTE conference I was attending.
