Making Clocks
There is a theory
that God is the great clock maker
with a perfect mechanism
that deftly predicts each second
of each day
of each person
with a precision that leaves us in awe
and always wondering what part
we play in this cosmic clockwork.
But I have a theory that is a bit different,
that God is the great artist,
wildly and happily slinging paint
to create things that are less perfect,
but far more wonderful
than clocks.
About this poem
When I look at life and life around me, I see something wild and unpredictable,
intertwined in ways that defy my logic, and yet, when I look back, I see how, often it all fits together in was I didn’t see at first glance. More like an abstract painting by a master artist than the works of my watch.
The picture was taken yesterday, as my son and I poked around in a shop. When he saw me take it, his words were “That’s going to end up in a poem someday.” So right my son! So right!

God has perfect timing. May not always seem so to us, but everything we do he already knows. Everything that happens to us He has already been there preparing the path. Life is precious and as the days tick tock past us, we all should look at it just as you have wrote it.
I love the image of God flinging about paint I absolute sheer joy!
