Museum Piece
So calm and Idyllic,
a museum piece,
beauty without context,
without stories,
no tales of passion,
fueled by hunger and wine,
fueled by loss and desire,
lust and tenderness.
No tales of death,
slow, lingering,
not the stuff of movies, far more sad,
and unbearably painful.
No tales of tears,
or small children who transform
furniture into ships
that take them far beyond the horizon.
and now, here it sits,
So calm and Idyllic,
a museum piece,
beauty without context,
but beauty still.
About this poem
So often our lives are more like still life paintings, seen without context. And they are beautiful. But they are richer and far more beautiful when we learn the context, the stories that make us, us.
