Poem: Primary Colors

Primary Colors

When it ends,
it is best
to go back to where it began,
to the primary colors,
the simplest feelings
that held your world together,
to rediscover
where your love is felt
and what you have to give
in return.

There then,
is your place of fear,
and the place you can begin to build
your safety,
where you can stand
and there is nothing left to break
apart,

where there is only
possibility
and nothing more
is needed.

About this poem

I went back into the studio today after a couple of weeks of travel and other madness, and painted the afternoon away. I am rusty and my eye was off. I experimented and as they do sometimes, the experiments failed.

But it was good. It pushed me to go back to some of my basics, the things I learned at the start of learning to paint, and reclaim those principles. And being aware I would be rusty, there was no pressure, just the child like joy of painting.

The same thing applies sometimes in life. When there is loss, there is a look back, to remind ourselves what is truest, and reclaim it. To remind ourselves where our most basic feelings rise from, and to protect them without hiding them away. To remind ourselves that despite what others might say, we are enough.

The Picture was taken at  Mass MOCA.
