Poem: The Bone Cave

The Bone Cave

It is dark.
It is always dark here.
Water glistens on the stones,
beautiful and dangerous to climb,
slippery with such a long way to fall.

It is no wonder
the cave is littered
with the bones
of those who have fallen
before you.

The bones are more frightening
than the darkness,
The fear of staying in this place
forever,
of becoming lost

to life and memory,
moves you forward,
sure you were made for more than darkness.
