Poem: Secret Passage

light

Secret Passage

Stare enough at the light and walls disappear,
the stone blocks, piled one on the other
by each and every jailor who has teased you
with crippled love and hate,

The dark mortar that holds them together weakens
and windows magically appear
like fireworks in the night.
startling and fearful both, lighting the landscape

that suddenly exists,
leaving you spellbound and afraid,
unsure when the next burst of light will appear
or it disappear in a blink, leaving you in your cell

alone
but not yet defeated by wars and weakness,
calling on God, not in desperation
but thankful for light, for your secret passage

out.

About this poem

What is your secret passage out of your dark places? Prayer. Passion? Creativity? A listening ear? A quiet place?
