Poem: Square and Round

Shelburne round barn 1 BW

Square and Round

The lines do not come together, yet
somehow, they do.
Square and round, the master carpenter
defies nature
to create something more than either,
magic,
or love,
or both.

About this poem.

Often, things that should work, don’t. And things that should not, do. “God only knows.” we say. And so it is.

The picture is of the “Round Barn” at the Shelburne Museum in VT. I’ve hung on to it for some time, sure there was a poem in it somewhere. And this morning, it showed itself.
