Poem: Dinner Out

Shelburne Ticonderoga table

Dinner Out

There is a myth
that meals are about food,
that dining is about dishes and atmosphere,
a great chef or fine wine
when the truth is,

meals are about conversation
and company,
about connection

that fills you
long after the plates are empty.

About this poem

Thank you Allan and Joan Claire, for a wonderful dinner last night. Wonderful in the best ways.

The picture was taken on the steamboat Ticonderoga, in Shelburne, VT.
