Poem: The Words

The Words

The words overwhelm you,
circle you,
attack you, each painful barb
drawing blood,
slowly draining life, one drop
at a time.

The words overwhelm you,

with a gentle love that lifts you high
and lets you soar
their wind, and updraft to heaven.

About this poem

What we say matters. How we say it matters. Both the words we say to others, and the words we say to ourselves.

I think that is even more important in today’s world were we are assaulted with words and images. The ones that come from us to people we care about gain extra importance, extra value in the midst of all that noise.

And, for me at least, it makes the quiet times that much more valuable, when we can sort out the voices, both those outside ourselves, and the ones in our heads.
