Poetry: Warm November

aaa

Warm November

And for this moment, the sun shines,
Surrounded by shadows, yes.
In the midst of cruel winter, yes.

But for now, for this moment,
you stand in the sun
and revel in it’s November heat on your skin,

more precious for it’s rarity.

There is no need to ask questions
or speculate why or for how long
this sun will linger. It is near winter

and there are no expectations
of warmth in this season of life.
so each bright day is a miracle to be savored

joyfully, like a child.

About this poem

Life brings us gifts at the most unexpected times, in the most unexpected ways. We have to be enough of a child to simply bask in them, and be grateful.

The picture was taken down the road from me, on the way to Pawlet, VT.
