Poem: The Treasure Box

Shelburne Dutton house 1

The Treasure Box

It is the box under the bed
you were never allowed to open.
Full of secrets, it taunted you
from the time you were young,
until now,
when you push back the demons
others have filled you with,
and pull the box into the light.

You open it
and claim the treasure,
whatever it may be.

About this poem

Sometimes we don’t find our truest selves until late in life. That’s OK. Some people never find it.
