Lilacs in Winter
Lilacs in winter
lack flowers,
lack leaves.
They cast shadows in the late afternoon light.
It would be easy to imagine them
dead,
not unlike me this winter’s night,
spindly and frail,
none of the promise of spring showing.
but it is there
nonetheless.
About this poem
It’s there. Somewhere.
The pictures really are the lilacs behind my house.

It is there…just your mention of their name and a faint fragrance floated in the air.
