Poem: Matthew 14:31

Matthew 14:31

“Come,” she said. “Join me at the table. Drink my wine
and we will talk a while.”

“It is late in the day.” I said. “Dinner time is past.”
but still, I sat. I sipped. I looked into her glistening eyes,

unaware I was drowning, unaware I was being offered more
than a meal,

“Silly boy.” she said. “Time has no meaning here.”
And I breathed in slowly, breathing in her truth, making it mine.

About this poem

The scripture comes from my devotions this morning, from the scene where Jesus walks on water, and then Peter follows him for two steps, before losing his faith and falling into the waters. Verse 31 reads ” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

it’s been that kind of week, where God’s hand has reached out and plucked me out of the sea, and I have been humbled.
