Painted Flowers

The flowers have been dyed,
recognizable and beautiful,
not what they were meant to be,
not what was expected
and you are unsure if it better
or worse, only
that you are drawn to them, sure

that underneath the gilting
flowers remain.
the essence of them,
what drew you in the first place,
a perfume of truth.
