Poem: Lilacs in Winter

Lilacs in winter

Lilacs in Winter

They have been covered in snow for months,
snow melted at last by the mere promise of spring,
and now you finally see them, the tiny buds
that have been silently preparing themselves,
hidden by the bitter cold, yet inevitable,
never caring whether you knew they were there
or not,
they set about their work of promise and color,
living in a calendar all their own.

About this poem.

Some poems are really about what they seem to be about. This is one.
