Poem: Killing from the Edges

27BW

Killing from the Edges

At dusk you see him,
a dark shadow against the bright lights
that deign to ward off the night,
a reminder
that every moment, you are stalked,
that he waits to pull you into the night,
to make you his prisoner
forever.

But not tonight,
not while you stand in the light
of fire, of love, not as long as your sword is at the ready,
and those that love you most
stand at your side.

For the shadow is a coward,
a bully, stalking in darkness,
fearful of the light, killing from the edges,
afraid of truth, light,
and most of all, the vulnerable power of love.

About this poem

Depression. The Devil. The demons within. The evil without. Sin. This could be about any and all of those.

And about love, of course. Always about love.
