Dreams of Amsterdam
It never leaves you,
the strange peace of a strange city,
that feeling of being eternally lost,
everything new,
where there is no right or wrong
way to travel,
where there is no purpose
other than to be,
to live the discovery along each lane and canal,
where being adrift is honored,
encouraged even
and where you find more than beauty
but fragments of yourself
long lost
and never known.
About this poem.
Facts: 1) I love to travel to places I’ve never been….. 2) It took until middle age, but I am now OK with being lost, which is a good thing because I often am…. 3) I adore Amsterdam. Next to Venice, I think it is my favorite city. Must be the canals….
