Poem: Orange Letters

Orange Letters

Orange paint on blue metal,
a name graffitied on a beam high
above the stairway.

A declaration of existence
and the courage
to declare it.

About this poem

While visiting a tower, I saw this name, “Toad” painted roughly onto a beam way above the stairway. I am generally not a fan of graffiti, but part of me had to admire the persistence of someone who would take the risk to paint his name so high in a public place.
