Poem: No Less Holy

cathedral

No Less Holy

The church is quiet. Only you are there.
Light streams through the windows.
Candles flicker near the altar.
There are no choirs.

The hymnals are neatly back in place,
one per pew back
and on the organ, the lights are off
and the keyboard locked shut.

Everyone is gone.
But this place is no less holy,
than when the rafters shake with sound,
For you are there,

And empty vessel
waiting to be filled.

About this poem

It’s not a sacred space without an open heart.
With an open heart, any space is sacred.
