Poem: A Choice of Suns

Dark City 1

A Choice of Suns

Late in the afternoon the sun cuts
through the canyon,
harsh, hot, draining,
a creature of heat,
wonderful at first, but slowly
leaving you a shell,
a dry mottled husk
of what you were.

Like love gone wrong
you stand too long,
until the exhaustion turns to sickness
and you must choose
between death
or escape.
