Poem: Fear of Love

late-afternoon

Fear of Love

I am afraid
for the same reason
we are all afraid.

I have been hurt
and barely survived
and do not know
if I can survive again.

I have opened myself to you
for the same reason
most of us do:

A mad belief that the possibility
is worth the threat
of death.

About this poem

I am not sure if this is a love poem, or a confessional.
