Poem: Word Play

7

Word Play

Knock.

Knock
gently.

Knock gently
for others have come to my door
and left me broken and leery
of strangers and lovers alike.

Give me time
to look at you,
to watch you without words
or need of description,
to simply watch
for the truth to sift out from your words.

It always does.

That is my lesson,
the one thing that time always reveals:
what is wordplay,
and what is truth,
worth
the wait.
