Poem: Escape to the Arbor

Escape to the Arbor

The light filters green through the grapevines,
transforming all it touches.

The vines are old, thick, wiry
and fruit hangs heavy, close, very close to harvest,

but today it is the shade you treasure, protection
from the painful truth of the sun.

About this poem

Sometimes reality is too painful to bear.

The picture was taken at the Vanderbilt mansion in Hyde Park, NY.
