Poem: The Opposite of Fear

The Opposite of Fear

Dark.
Dangerous.
A fearful space.
You are abused
from within.

And so you leap,
Icarus to the sun,
more willing to burn
than disappear in the dark.

About this poem

I have been told, because I have a professional career, that it would be better to not write about my internal battles here and in other places. It will destroy the image of being oh-so-together and smart.

Perhaps.

But perhaps not. Perhaps there is value in showing the broken can also rise, and that everything is not easy, but possible nonetheless.

Flame on!

Tom
