Artist’s Courage

It is the bravest thing an artist does,
to declare your latest child a wastrel
and paint over it with the thick white gesso
and have the courage to begin again.

About this poem

Actually, it is the bravest thing any of us can do.

For non-artist, gesso is this thick white stuff you paint on raw canvas, or a botched painting, to prepare it for a new painting. The picture is from my studio.
