Poem: Neon

Neon

The neon ballasts make a buzzing noise.
Some of the tubes flicker.
On purpose, I am sure.
Making a statement about a world
bright and imperfect.
A fearful message for some.
A beacon for others.
Simple truth, bright and buzzing,
an advertisement
for the future.

About this poem

The neon sign was on a display in Mass MoCA, years ago. I’ve always loved it.
