Poem: Color and Light

Color and Light

The light is a little off.
That almost yellow hue
caused by forest fires a country away
and storm clouds holding off their deluge

and the temptation is to put away the camera
and resign yourself to a less productive day,
but that is not what you do. You take the pictures,
distortions and all, understanding

that strange light has a magic of its own,
forcing you to see differently,
forcing you to see a new kind of beauty
perhaps a bit more precious for its rarity.

About this poem.

Inspired by the picture, taken outside one of the Dupont Mansions in Deleware, during the Canadian wildfires. Yes, the water lilies looked like that. They would have looked quite differently with normal light.

How we see, including the light that shines in our lives, colors everything. So in a way, it is also about our faiths, and how it changes how we see the world.

Poetry is never about one thing.

  1. Indeed that smoke cast a whole different light on the countryside. Setting aside the negative aspects of the smoke, one could enjoy a changed view.
