The Old Ways
It is time to bring out the tools,
to fix the broken things,
yourself included,
using the old ways, all of which take more time,
more work, more effort,
than you would like to spend.
Still, they work, the old ways.
That is what we forget in the flurry of new.
The old ways not only complete the healing,
but there is satisfaction in the work,
in the doing, A sense of the historic
This is what you have learned,
fighting the demons. No one will save you,
no matter how they would like to. No matter
that they may have the instruction book
They will refuse to believe something so simple
as love or touch can have that much power.
Their tools are not yours,
And so you begin again. And again.
pulling out the old things that saved you once before,
and beginning again,
It is different this time.
You already know how it will end,
There is no mystery save how long
before you cage the familiar demons
and teach them to dance to lute and lyre.
