Poem: A Choice of Pains

A Choice of Pains

It is a long walk to nowhere.
It is the walk and the emptiness that matter,
not the where. You walk
far enough that your muscles start to ache
before you turn back, sure
you will feel some pain in your old legs,
but just as sure
that pain is growth, a pain chosen
to help you grow
stronger.

About this poem

A poem about walking on the beach. A poem about going through the pain to get better. A poem about growing stronger. Poetry is never about one thing.

The Photograph was taken about a mile from Marconi Beach on Cape Cod. For whatever reason, it is one of my favorite pictures with it’s slightly Rene Magritte feel.
