Poem: Stars Returning to the Sky

Stars Returning to the Sky

Never mind you are alone, fire crackling safe under a mesh canopy,
it is a thing, nonetheless of romance,
the crackling. The heat. The heat of consumation,
nothing but stars ovehead. Now and again sparks
break loose and fly into the night, like a reverse falling star,
a wish returning to the sky.

About this poem

A poem about fire. About love. About faith. About being careful about what you wish for. An excercise in playing with words and syntax. Poetry is never about one thing.

The picture is of my fire pit behind the house.
