Another Map on the Fire
Late in the night the fire burns, bright and high,
enough to know the map has led you astray
and the path you have traveled is a false journey.
In the morning, you will go back,
looking at the fork that led you here,
But for now you will have to be content
with the scenery and the beauty you have seen
along the way, never mind the aching legs and back
from climbing the wrong mountain.
You made it here because of the strength
in you old bones and your older heart.
Strength enough to toss another map on the fire.
and begin anew.
About this poem
A poem about therapy, journies, and choices. None of them are fatal, even the wrong ones.
The photograph is of the firepit in my back yard.
