Poem: A Monkey Seeking Shakespeare

A Monkey Seeking Shakespeare

And when things are uncertain,
I write. And write .
And write some more,
like a monkey seeking Shakespear,
writing until I find my truth,
hidden in the fog of feelings.

About this poem

There is an old trope that says if you lock enough monkeys in a room with typewriters sooner or later one of them will write some Shakespeare. THe saying dates me – who uses typewriters any more? But still, there is some sense to the idea.

When I am floundering, I write more, here, in my journal, alone in the night. In public places. I write and sooner or later the writing overcomes my barriers and tells me what is going on inside me. I am often surprised.

Be well. Travel wisely,

Tom
