Poem: The Pull of an Oar

The Pull of an Oar

There is a temptation.
(Many of them actually but I can only write to one at a time).

There is a temptation to let the currents and winds
have their way, draw you out to see
for as long as they see fit and
to let them drop you where they will
and call it God’s will.

But on the other hand, he gave us arms
and a mind to dream.
Strength to sail and row
and choose your destination
no matter how far away it seems.

So row. Or hoist your sail.
The world is more yours than you allow it to be.
But that can change with the pull of an oar.

About this poem

Preaching to myself and to the people I love most.

Off my soapbox.
