The Creation of Truth
They are everywhere once you know what to look for.
Symbols. Symbols of faith or secret societies
or even of an impossible love. Images, Clues. Cues.
Invisible most of the time, taken for granted,
not seen except for the rare initiate, the rare lover
who sees a world beyond this one, objects of
imagination and at times delusion, full of depth
someone wants do deeply, so badly
they create an entire secret world to surround
themselves, and pretend it is true,
until it becomes true.
About this poem
I am currently reading a book called “A Secret History of the World” by Mark Booth. In it he tries to pull together a single belief system out of all the secret societies throughout history. It is an absorbing mix of facts and speculation and symbology. Now and then he stumbles onto a truth, but true or not, it is fascinating reading, and has reopened my eyes to the every day symbols all around us. Some from society, and some from our inner lives.
The picture was taken at the American Farm Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
