Poem: Evidence to the Contrary

Evidence to the Contrary

It is an old photograph come to haunt you
and you cannot remember if it is dusk or dawn,
all you can be sure of is that it is a moment of change
not unlike where you sit today, the earth beneath you
shifting with a low slow rumble, feet uncertain,
sure, sooner or later it will stop
despite evidence to the contrary.

About this poem

I have spent much of my life thinking life would settle down. Somehow it never quite does.

The photograph was taken outside Provincetown, Mass. Despite what the poem says, it was sunset.
