Matthew 9:37-38
It has been fifteen years of watching the old garage tilt.
Inperceptable day to day, but year to year
you begin to see it. Not unlike your own life,
a little more decrepit with time unless
someone chooses to do the work of restoration.
It has been fifteen years
and the tilt is near the breaking point now,
a storm away from collapse,
not at all like you, stronger now
than you were at the beginning of your coming apart,
not for any inherent worth,
but simply because someone decided
I was worth saving,
and for some reason, the old garage
was not.
About this poem.
I write of brokeness often, not because I am (any more) but because I have been, and I know the journey of restoration I have taken, and how grateful I am that others took that journey with me. How grateful that God is a God of restoration. How aware I am that there is more who need restoration than those who make the journey with us.
Matthew 9:37-38 reads “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Tom,
What a wonderful observation, and, as always, well illustrated by a metaphorical photo!
This is a perfect confirmation of your recent acceptance of an appointment to another church whose flock will benefit not only from your wisdom but from your compassion.
May you be blessed in this new role.
Blessings,
