The Things Kept
I was made for something else.
Not being rich exactly. Something simpler.
An elegance of less.
A few things. Well-made things.
Well placed. With space between them.
Expanses of wood and light, emptiness
that calls the few things to grab your attention.
A life that says these things are important.
And these things are not. living in the beauty
of the things kept.
About this poem.
I am, in my heart of heart, something of a minimalist. In things. In how I spend my time. In my emotions. The book “The Power of Less” by Leo Babauta is one of my formative books.
The photograph was taken at the Hancock Shaker Village in the Berkshires.
