Poem: It Takes the Launching

It Takes the Launching.

The thing is, no matter how many times you make the journey
it is different. No matter the journey, love or power or faith
or the delving into your soul to find yourself again,
the geography has changed while you were gone.
The weather has not been idle and standing on the shore
you cannot know these things.

It takes the launching, the turning of your sails
To catch whatever wind may come, favorable or not,
it will carry you and you will do what you have always done,
navigate the changing seas, in search of a place
that feels like home.

About this poem.

About sailing. About navigating our lives. Much of the time, the things we think we know, we don’t.

The picture was taken at Mystic Seaport, Connecticut.
