Meditation

Stop.
The world will go on.
Take a deep breath,
smell the forest.

Pray.
Listen to the voice of God
in the rustle of the wind
and the lone bird singing.

Breath.
Feel the life giving air
course through your body
like a winter’s fire.

Listen.
Your heart is singing
like angels, crying like a child,
whispering like a lover.

Know.
You are not alone
in your moment of fear and passion,
unless you choose the din instead of silence.

Stop.
Pray.
Breath.

Listen.
Know.
Hope.

About this poem.

Much is going on in my life right now. The details are less important than that one fact. And when things are wildly out of control, I turn to what, for me is the most powerful verse in the bible, Psalm 46:10. “Be still and know I am God.”.

I have written to that verse over and over, because I believe in it’s power. Because it touches me in so many ways. Because I think it’s one of the most important verses in scripture. Far more important than the ones we too often use to beat each other over the head with.

And so I write to it again after an early morning of prayer and devotions and meditation. Not as a sermon, or a lecture, but as a prayer.

Have a blessed day,

Tom

PS: The picture was taken at Emerald Lake, near Manchester, VT.
